Bearings: Privacy Policy

Last updated 22 August 2026

Bearings collects nothing. There is no account, no server, and no analytics. Everything you enter stays on the device you entered it on, and none of it is ever transmitted anywhere.

What we collect

Nothing. We do not collect, receive, store, process, sell, or share any personal information, health information, usage data, device identifiers, advertising identifiers, crash reports, or diagnostics.

This is not a policy choice that could quietly change in a future build — the app contains no networking code at all. It makes no outbound requests of any kind, and it works identically with the device in airplane mode.

What the app stores, and where

Bearings saves what you enter so it is there the next time you open it. That includes:

  • Symptom ratings you choose to log — baseline, per-exercise peaks, recovery times

  • Daily stress ratings, screen-time figures, and free-text notes

  • Which step of each exercise ladder you are on

  • Your settings, including reminder times

All of it is written to your device's own local application storage (iOS: UserDefaults · Android: SharedPreferences) and stays inside the app's private sandbox. Other apps cannot read it. We cannot read it.

All of this is optional. The app is fully usable without logging a single number.

Backups

Your entries are included in whatever backup your phone already performs — iCloud Backup on iOS, or Google's backup service on Android — under the same encryption and the same account controls as the rest of your device. That happens between you and Apple or Google. It does not involve us, and we have no access to those backups.

There is no export feature and no cloud sync. If you delete Bearings, its data is deleted with it and cannot be recovered.

Notifications

Session reminders, if you turn them on, are scheduled locally on your device. There is no push service, no notification token, and no message ever leaves your phone. Turning reminders off cancels them immediately.

Third parties

There are none. Bearings contains no advertising SDKs, no analytics SDKs, no crash-reporting SDKs, no social login, no attribution frameworks, and no remote configuration. It loads no fonts, images, scripts, or stylesheets from the internet.

Children

Bearings is intended for adults following a rehabilitation plan agreed with a clinician. Since it collects no data whatsoever, it collects no data from children either.

Your rights

Rights of access, correction, deletion, and portability normally apply to data a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to disclose, correct, or delete. Your data is entirely under your own control: you can view all of it inside the app, and erase all of it at once from Settings → Erase all data, or by deleting the app.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Bearings ever collects or transmits anything, this page will say so plainly and in advance, and the app will ask for your consent before doing it. The current version does not.

Not medical advice

Bearings is not medical advice, not a diagnosis tool, and not a substitute for a clinician. It doesn't assume that PPPD has already been diagnosed by a qualified professional. PPPD-related symptoms may have causes that need urgent care, and this app cannot tell them apart. Review this plan with a vestibular physical therapist before beginning, and stop if symptoms become disabling rather than mildly provoked. Use at your own risk.

If you have any questions, you can contact us above.
